Obituary:

Lester “Cotton” Walter Smith, 75 of Mt. Airy, MD passed away on Thursday, February 1, 2024, peacefully at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born December 26, 1948, in Mt. Airy, MD, the son of the late Lester A. Smith and the late Dolly Smith (nee Reaver).
Cotton was a hardworking man with a great work ethic; and worked as a superintendent for Miller & Long concrete for 46 years. He was rough around the edges but had a heart of gold. He enjoyed fast cars, motorcycles, hunting, and turkey shoots.
He is survived by his 6 children: Melissa Bennett & husband Larry of Mt. Airy, MD, Brian Smith & wife Heather of Westminster, MD, Casey Smith of Westminster, MD, Lindsey Smith of Pasadena, MD, Nick Smith, and Amy Capitan of Brunswick, MD; Grandfather of Ashley Jarrett, Brandon Bennett, Sierra Smith, Dylan Smith, Blake Smith, Skyler Crowl, Ariel, Hadley, Colton; 1 great grandson Wyatt Jarrett aka “Stimey”; and siblings Darlene, Mike, Diana and Doreen. Also survived by lifelong friend Wanda Smith and numerous nieces and nephews.
A gathering of friends and family will be held on Tuesday, February 6, 2024, from 2-4 PM at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A. 1212 West Old Liberty Road Sykesville, MD 21784 (Beside South Carroll High School), where Celebration of Life service will begin at 4 PM.
