Obituary:

Charles William (Bill) Knill, age 83 of Mount Airy, Maryland went to be with the Lord on Saturday, August 10, 2024, at Northampton Nursing Home in Frederick, MD. Bill was born on August 24, 1940, at home on the family farm on Watersville Road in Mount Airy to parents Roy Marion Knill and Margaret Irene Cromwell Knill. He and his wife Jean Condon Knill were married for 64 years.

Farming and Music were his life. His singing stretched from his school days to Church choir, weddings, nursing homes and wherever there was a calling. He enjoyed sharing his God given talent. Bill followed his father’s footsteps and milked cows on the farm in Mt. Airy and later changed to beef and grain and then to the Vegetable Market. This gave a great outlet to share the story of “where your food comes from” through hayrides, fall festivals, and school tours.

Bill was very active in the agricultural industry and a longtime member of the Farm Bureau. He served as County Farm Bureau President 1988. Served for 6 years as President of Maryland Farm Bureau and as a delegate to the American Farm Bureau Federation. In those capacities he traveled on agricultural missions to China, Australia, Hawaii, and Argentina/Chile.

Besides his wife, he is survived by his sister Irene Knill of Florida, four children- James A. Knill and Susan Shankle of Mt. Airy, Anne Knill of Boonsboro, and Duane Knill of Everrett, Washington. There are eight grandchildren – James W. Knill, Danny Knill, Brian Knill, Lewis Shankle, Bethany Orwig, Austin Dorsey, Parker Dorsey, and Elizabeth Knill.
