Obituary:

Virginia Lee Condon Cawood, 83, passed away September 4, 2024, at Cottingham Hospice House, Seneca, SC. Born in Mt. Airy, Maryland, on June 19, 1941, she was the daughter of the late Margaret Virginia Gosnell Condon and the late Austin Bair Condon.

Virginia was a devoted mother, grandmother and recent great grandmother and spent most of her life as a business owner. She and her ex-husband, Tom Cawood, owned and operated Montgomery County Outhouse Rentals in Clarksburg, Maryland, from 1970 until they sold it in 1990. In addition, they owned and operated Tom Cawood Auctioneer and Associates. Virginia was always the hard-working, behind-the-scenes glue that made every new venture successful and profitable, never asking for anything in return.

From 2005 until the present, she was a vital part of her daughter and son-in-law’s business, Solitude Pointe Cabins and RV Park, in Cleveland, South Carolina. In between, she worked at Damascus Community Bank and David Baptist Church. In addition to running businesses, Virginia spent all of her spare time as Sunday school teacher, church clerk, church secretary, and chairing various committees at all of her churches, including Upper Seneca Baptist Church, Mt. Airy Baptist Church, Putnam Memorial Baptist (currently Pleasant City Church) and Saluda Hill Baptist Church. She had a true servant’s heart.

Virginia is survived by her daughter, Amy (Rodney) Ross of Cleveland, SC, and son, Alan Cawood, of Hagerstown, MD. Grandchildren, Rebekah Ross of Greer, SC, Ryan (Ashley) Ross of Easley, SC, and Keira Cawood of Hagerstown, MD. Great granddaughter, Amelia Ross of Easley, SC. Sister, Jean Knill, of Mt. Airy, MD. Beloved nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be at Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, PA., 1212 W. Old Liberty Road, (Winfield) Sykesville, MD, 21784. from 10:00 am – 12:00 noon on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. Funeral to follow at 12:00 noon. Burial immediately following at Taylorsville United Methodist Church Cemetery, Taylorsville, MD.

The family will also be receiving friends at Solitude Pointe Cabins & RV Park, 102 Table Rock Road, Cleveland, South Carolina, from 11:00 – 1:00 on Saturday, September 14, 2024.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Virginia’s memory to Saluda Hill Baptist Church, Cleveland, SC, or to Cottingham Hospice House, Seneca, SC.
