Obituary:
Evelyn Rae Jenkins, of Reisterstown and Hampstead, MD formerly of Pikesville, MD passed away on December 24, 2024, at the BridgingLife (Dove House), Westminster, MD. Evelyn was born on February 19, in Mableton, Georgia to the late Carroll and Mary Ruth (White) Derreth. She was married to the late Russell Neal Jenkins, Sr.
Evelyn is survived by her children, Russell N. Jenkins, Jr. and his wife Patricia of Barnesville, GA, Pamela Jenkins Santiago and her husband Ed of Reisterstown, MD, Stephen M. Jenkins and his wife Rose of Hanover, PA, and Terri Lynn Detamore and her husband Robert of Hampstead, MD. Mother-in-law of Robin G. Mazza of Bracey, Virginia. Sister of Robert Derreth and his wife Nell, Jaqueline Loats and her husband, the late Harry Loats, Jo-Ann Jerauld Kitchen and her husband Kenny, Marilyn Hamilton and her husband Don and the late Carolyn Platt. Sister-in-law of Darryl Platt. Grandmother of Kristi Adkinson and her husband Kevin, Kaci Sanders, Christopher Santiago and his wife Brittany, Mary Dew and her husband Josh, Brian Jenkins and his wife Miranda, Robert Patterson, Jr., and Michael Patterson. Great Grandmother of Christopher and Chase Adkinson, Quinn and Sawyer Sanders and Emmett Santiago. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends.
Evelyn was a member of Colonial Baptist Church and the secretary for 13 years under Rev. Richard L. Ledbetter. And later became a member of Reisterstown Baptist Church She was an Administrative Assistant for Baptist Family Children’s Service for 13 years. She also worked at Liberty Christian School. She was the Business Office Manager for Kingsway Academy. She worked for Visiting Angels well into her late 80’s. She loved doing crossword puzzles on her kindle and playing card games with family and friends. You were never a stranger with Evelyn. She always had a kind word to say and was willing to help you with whatever you needed. Her caring and kindness will be truly missed by all.
Family and friends may call at the Burrier-Queen Funeral Home & Crematory, P.A.,1212 West Old Liberty Road, Sykesville, MD 21784 (next to South Carroll High School) on Thursday, January 2, 2025, from 10:00am until 1:00pm. Funeral service will begin at 1:00pm with her son, Rev. Russell N. Jenkins, Jr. of First Baptist Church of Barnesville, GA., officiating.
Interment Garrison Forest Veterans Cemetery in Owings Mills, Maryland on Friday, January 3, 2025, at 10:00am at the cemetery.
